"Walk With Me" 2011
Bereavement Bulletin Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home
Tears are the silent language of grief.
Voltaire
Why do we cry? Is there anyone who has never cried? We are born crying. Are they tears of fear, psychological discomfort, or physical distress? Who knows? It would seem safe to say we cry because we need to. It provides us with physical and emotional comfort. The tears of grief come at times of loss. Loss of home, physical health, jobs, anger, relationships and the ultimate loss of a loved one. Often times the bereaved will lament the fact that they cry too much. I can’t go here or there because I might cry. Thus isolating themselves because of crying, which is a natural part of healing after the death of a loved one. The tears that you shed are a tribute to the deceased. Give yourself permission to cry. Allow yourself to grieve openly as an expression of the love you feel for your loved one.
“The Walk With Me” grief group is a safe place for you to cry and shed your tears of tribute to your loved one. The group meets at Trinity Family Counseling Center, 45052 Deshon, Utica, Michigan from 7 to 9 p.m. for six session seasonally.
It is facilitated by trained grief counselors.

“SAFE HARBOR”
Bereavement Bulletin Fall 2011 Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home
“ There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mask of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief…and unspeakable love.” - Washington Irving
The Holiday season is just around the corner. It’s a time of family gatherings, traditions and joy. But something has changed. Life as you knew it is no more. What once brought feelings of excitement and anticipation, now bring apprehension and despair. Memories are triggered in the most unexpected ways and the tears well up again. Grief- a process that seems will never end. A process that may have started with family and friends offering comfort and support. But now you fear that you’ve become a burden, or just don’t want to impose. Right now you need to find a “Safe Harbor”. A place where you can lay your burdens down and feel the support, caring and comfort of others. Join us as we journey through the seasons of loss together. This group is sponsored by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home and led by Susan Varady, LMSW, who, for over 30 years, has helped guide people through their pain with respect and compassion.
The group meets at 3233 Coolidge Hwy., Berkley, MI 48072 (1 block south of 12 Mile Rd.) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For information or registration, call the funeral home at 248-541-7000 or Susan at 248-591-7006. “Safe Harbor” is open to all who feel they could benefit from the program.
