Barbara DeView, age 85, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, in Detroit, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and determination. She was born on November 11, 1937, in Columbus, Georgia, to the late Clark D. and Martha K. (nee' Bishop) Gill. Barbara's life was marked by remarkable achievements, breaking barriers, and embracing her passions. In 1959, she proudly graduated with a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, during a time when few women pursued careers in the field of pharmacy. Barbara defied societal norms and became a pharmacist, forging her path in a profession she dearly loved. For many years, Barbara served as a dedicated pharmacist at Hall Drugs in Utica, Michigan, and various local pharmacies. Her commitment to her work and the well-being of her patients earned her admiration and respect in the community. Beyond her professional endeavors, Barbara was an active member of the Garden Club in Shelby Township, where she cultivated her love for nature and all things green. She had a profound appreciation for the arts, finding joy in the stroke of a brush and the turn of a page. Among her favorite literary escapes were the works of Jane Austen, and she could often be found immersed in their timeless tales. Traveling was another passion Barbara shared with her beloved husband of 60 years, Dave DeView. Their adventures took them to various corners of the world, creating cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Barbara's love extended to her family, and she embraced every opportunity to spend time with them. Her grand dogs, Phlopsie and Coco, were also an integral part of her life, bringing her immense joy with their playful antics. Barbara leaves behind a loving family, including her, husband Dave, sons Greg DeView and Patrick (Jen) DeView. She was a devoted grandmother to Melanie DeView and David (Kayla) DeView, and a proud great-grandmother to little Gregory. Barbara's memory will be cherished by her brothers Zack (Susan) Gill, Tyrus (Ann) Gill, Gary (Valerie) Gill, Russell (Kim) Gill, and Dewey (Cindy) Gill as well as her sister-in-law, Bernice Gill . She is also fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. In the embrace of eternity, Barbara is now reunited with her late siblings Betty (Alan) Miller, Jeff Gill, Randy (Diane) Gill, Peggy Wood, and Clark Gill Jr., who were waiting to welcome her home. As we bid farewell to Barbara DeView, we remember her as a trailblazer, a nurturing presence, and a woman whose life touched many. Her gentle smile, warm heart, and unwavering spirit will remain etched in our memories forever. A Celebration of Barbara's Life will take place on Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke), Utica from 10am until time of service at 12 Noon.
