Billy Dean Martin

Billy Dean Martin, age 87, of Sterling Heights (formerly of Troy), passed away on May 16, 2023. Billy was the beloved husband of Billie (née Parks) and the loving father of Kathy (Mark) Paschall, Steve Martin, and Tim Martin. Billy was also the proud grandfather of Ryan Martin, Emmy Paschall, Ethan (Gloria) Paschall, Katie Martin, and the late Maddy Martin; and great-grandfather of Isla James Paschall. Billy was born on December 28, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up in the city, attended Lincoln High School and enjoyed a successful career of over thirty years as a draftsman with General Motors. Billy's meticulous work and dedication earned him the respect of his colleagues and a reputation for excellence. Beyond his professional life, Billy had a zest for various hobbies and interests. He was an avid golfer, winning numerous trophies from GM tournaments over the years. Golf brought him joy and friendly competition, and when Billie learned to play, it became a cherished activity for them to enjoy together. Throughout the years, he and Billie also found pleasure in bowling, participating in both work and church leagues. Billy's love for travel was closely intertwined with his passion for golf. He eagerly explored golf courses in Crossville, Tennessee, and basked in the warm weather of Myrtle Beach, seizing every opportunity to combine his passions for travel and golf. And while golf may have been his ultimate passion, Billy's dedication to the Detroit Tigers matched it. A lifelong Tigers fan, he found immense joy in watching his hometown team on television and attending games whenever possible. Music also held a significant place in Billy's life. Self-taught on the bass guitar, he shared his musical talents as a bassist at Central Free Will Baptist Church, now known as Central Oaks Community Church, for two decades. His commitment to his faith and the power of music brought solace and inspiration to many. Billy will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by his family. Visitation for Billy will be held on Friday, May 19, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. The services will take place at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, located at 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward) in Royal Oak. Billy will be laid to rest at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
