Carol Rock Roupinian

Carol Rock Roupinian, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Troy, Michigan on February 19, 2024, lovingly surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by Harold Roupinian, her beloved husband of 33 years, and her parents Sarah Anna (Sipe) and Gordon Roy Rock. Carol was born and raised in Roseville, Michigan and graduated from Roseville High School. In her early teens, she excelled at softball, the broad jump, and bowling. Her numerous awards attest to her skill on the alley. She also discovered her love for accounting while working at her father's business, and went on to earn an associate's degree in accounting at Macomb Community College. Carol was a successful business owner and president of Schaefer Greenhouse, Inc. in Troy, Michigan from 1983-1994. Displaying her business savvy and characteristic grit, she worked with the zoning board, residents, and business owners to facilitate the sale of the property to well-known grocer Nino Salvaggio. From there, Carol opened Shaefer Florist on Long Lake Road, continuing her love for flowers and planning special events, winning a beautification award and meeting first-lady Barbara Bush, among others. Later, she was an accredited insurance agent and integral in her husband's long-time insurance agency. Carol was honored to be named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. An award bestowed in appreciation for her significant contribution in furtherance of a better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world. That is who Carol was. She loved spending time with her family at many gatherings in Troy, Michigan or, during winter months, at the second home she shared with her husband in Pompano Beach, Florida. Carol loved to travel and could regale others with stories about the many trips she took with her husband, including a memorable trip to Egypt, a tour to Armenia, and a cruise through the Panama Canal. Whether it was flowers and gardening, being a professional sports fan-at one point she became quite the boxing aficionado - caring for her beloved dogs Tinkerbell, Nané, and Gracie, or just being with the people she loved, Carol was always a delightful and enthusiastic participant in life. Carol was a warm and giving person always putting the needs of others before her own. Even in her final days, she expressed concern about the toll her illness was having on those caring for her. She selflessly cared for numerous people throughout her life. Old or young, her empathy and integrity endeared her to many. She drew on her Lutheran faith for strength and comfort, particularly this past year. Stylish and elegant, warm, and compassionate, Carol will be deeply missed by all those who had the fortune to know her, many of whom will be wearing a touch of pink-her favorite color-at her funeral. She is survived by her brother Gary Rock, sisters Suzanne (James) Uicker, and Nancy (Daniel) De Meyer; nephew and godson Ryan Eckert, with whom she shared a special bond, nephew and godson Jamie Martus, nephew Matthew (Kimberly) Martus, wonderful grandnephews Jack and Cooper Martus, stepdaughter René Roupinian and partner David Goldstein, and her late husband's extended family. She is predeceased by her nephew Jonathan (Shereen) Martus, and her dear friend and business partner Jim Eckert. Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 25th from 1 - 8 p.m. and Monday, February 26th from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 West Eleven Mile Road (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak, Michigan.
