Ellen Marie Eland

Ellen Marie Eland (nee Stesney), of Sterling Heights, passed away on September 21 at the age of 72 surrounded by family. Ellen spent her honorable 51-year nursing career at Henry Ford Health System where she was a mentor and teacher to all who knew her. She graduated from Ferndale High School in 1969 and from Henry Ford School of Nursing in 1972. Years later she received her BSN from Oakland University; something she was very proud of. She married Don Eland in 1979 and they were married for 27 years when Don passed away. Ellen met Peter Webster a year later and have been together for 17 years; they married in August 2020. Ellen was a beloved wife and is survived by her husband, Peter Webster. She is survived by her siblings Leonard W. (Cheryl) Stesney, Karen (John) Mattice, Mary (Larry) Crites, Christine (Terry) Ridenour and Kathy (Chuck) Domaracki, and sister-in-law, Susan Webster. She was also the proud aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard J. and Agnes Stesney, and first husband, Donald J. Eland. Ellen loved to travel and took many trips abroad as well as to places across the U.S. She traveled with Peter on a cruise to Alaska earlier in the year and often took trips with girlfriends and family. Peter and Ellen enjoyed caring for two Westie’s one of which was a rescue that filled their lives with joy. Ellen also had a passion for golf and you would often see her on the course every weekend. Colleagues at Henry Ford shared that Ellen was honest and objective and treated everyone with respect. She was an educator and taught countless residents and staff and patients would ask for her because of her caring demeanor and trust in her clinical skills. As a sister, she was a role model to her siblings. One of Ellen’s sisters stated Ellen always supported and loved me. She loved all of us and wanted to make sure we never lost sight of being a family. Visitation Wednesday, September 27, 3:00 - 8:00pm at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. In state Thursday, 10:30am at St. Thomas More Church, 4580 N. Adams Rd., Troy followed by Mass at 11:00am Memorial donations made be made to the Michigan Humane Society, Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, Westie Rescue Michigan or Fr. Solanus Casey Center.
