Ervin Jones

Ervin V. Jones, age 77, resident of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Erv went to be with his lord on December 24th, 2020. He was a native of Lewisburg, Tennessee and son to the late Thomas Ervin Jones and Ruth Jones Howard. How do we even start to tell the world what an incredible husband, father, friend and human being you were....... Erv started his career at Chrysler Motor Corp. and soon moved to General Motors where he worked for over four decades until retirement in 2009. He wore a lot of different hats during his time at GM. He was a Millwright, Committee Man, Chairman of Skilled Trades Apprentice Committee. He was the Editor and Chief of the GM/UAW Magazine and the President of the Democratic Executive Board of Rochester Retiree. He was involved in so many different community organizations, helping others, too many to list. He was a staunch and proud member of the UAW until his last breath and beyond I'm sure. He fought the good fight of union workers and for all the underprivileged in the world. He loved the time he spent at the UAW Black Lake Retreat. He was a graduate of Pontiac Central High School. He went back to school late in life to get his degree (Bachelors Degree) so he could help others and teach them the joy of mathematics and to hopefully help them get ahead in life to provide for their families. His intelligence was incredible. He could figure out complex math equations in his head. We called him our "Go to guy"/ He taught algebra, geometry, trigonometry, blueprint classes at Oakland Community College. He worked for others above himself. His hobbies were boating, football, hockey, traveling and bowling. He truly loved the game of bowling. His highest game was "299". He was awarded a ring from the Detroit Mens Bowling Assc. He had many 700 series. He broke several records for mixed team and mixed doubles for the highest series. These records still stand today. Beloved husband of 38 years to Dina Jones and father to his loving children Kevin Jones (Maggie), Keith Jones and Kenneth Jones (Marie), proud grandfather of Kara (Dave), Karina (Scott), Julie (Don), Kevin Jr. (Larissa), Scott (Vikki), Rosie (Chris), Raymond Krol, Kenneth Jr. (Shelby) and Collin. Dearest great-grandfather to Kameron, Mavis, Charlotte, Aiden, Travis, Denum, Benjamin, Zariah, Genesis, Jackson, Scotty, Tyler, Brayden, Johanna, Arianna and Emmy. He is predeceased by his big brother David Jones, Cathey Jones, and Cande Jones, survived by his loving siblings Dickie Ray Jones (Lynn) of Port Austin and Caren Frances of Auburn Hills. He had so many friends and family it would be impossible to list everyone, including all of his Brothers and Sisters at the UAW, his family including Brother In Law - Modio Manni (Pam), Sister in Law - Anita Hall Jones (Dave), Nephews - Jonathan "Skeeter" Johnson, James David Jones (Christian), Nieces - Mindy Winegar (Roger), Janita Baucum (Gipson), Molly Jones. He had a special love in his heart for his furry nephew and niece "Bear n Casey Flagg" and their mom and dad Steve and Monica. You know he loved each and every one of you. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stranger. He had a strong belief in the Lord. Life was the journey, Heaven was the destination. I know he has reached his destination! Due to the national pandemic, a celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.
