Gena Staszek

Gena (Fleury) Staszek, a cherished wife, daughter, sister, and friend, departed from this earthly life on July 25, 2023, at the age of 43, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on December 13, 1979, in Royal Oak, MI, Gena was the beloved daughter of Louis and Marilyn (Brown) Fleury. On October 18, 2008, she found her soulmate in Rob Staszek and they were united in marriage at the enchanting Victoria Wedding Chapel and Gardens in Waterford, MI. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with laughter, love, and shared dreams, celebrating 15 beautiful years of marriage. Never letting her Epilepsy win for even a second, a fight she endured from an early age, Gena was a free spirit who found solace in the great outdoors. She delighted in spending her time camping, relishing the warmth of a campfire, and savoring the simple pleasure of an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Along with her love for Coca-Cola Gena had an immense love for bacon often eating the fatty part first, proclaiming "That's the best part!" and saving the meat for her husband. She could often be found engrossed in watching her favorite crime shows, serial killer documentaries, and especially, Grey's Anatomy. Not to mention various other movies with actors and actresses she could never remember the name of; often asking those around her, "What was that TV show with the guy that flew?" or "What was the name of that movie with that one girl who got caught in that thing?" knowing that they would guess correctly, even if the answer came with an eyeroll and smirk. Some of her favorite movies being The Breakfast Club, The Princess Bride, All the Mel Brooks films, Court Jester, and She's Out of my League. Movies she could quote in any given moment; a skill that was passed on from her loving parents and a playful game that her and Rob did often, quipping at each other, "Name that movie!?!?" Her vibrant smile and charismatic personality brightened the lives of all who knew her. Gena's love for her family and friends knew no bounds, and she made it her mission to bring joy to every room she entered. An 80's girl at heart, Gena was obsessed with all things Bon Jovi. Going so far as to have the cover of their "New Jersey" album tattooed on her arm, right before her wedding. Her creativity flowed through her favorite hobbies of cross stitching and diamond painting, where she crafted works of art that brought joy to her loved ones. Gena is survived by her devoted husband of 15 years, Rob Staszek, who stood by her side through thick and thin. She leaves behind her loving parents, Louis and Marilyn Fleury, and her dear brother and Sister-in-Law, Doug and Laura Fleury. Gena will be deeply missed by her nieces, Ella, Sofia and Camila whom she adored, her Mother and Father-in-law, Lorraine and Stan Staszek, Sister-in-law Christine Staszek and her furbabies, Goober and Sydney, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Welcoming her in the afterlife are her first two furbabies, Spike and Peanut, who had departed earlier. A visitational period will be held at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home (705 W. Eleven Mile, Royal Oak, MI 48067) on Sunday, July 30, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at the same funeral home on Monday, July 31, 2023, beginning at 12:00 p.m., with an instate starting at 10:00 a.m. Friends and family are invited to join in paying their final respects and offering support during this challenging time.
