John Edgar Alford, Jr.

John Edgar Alford Jr., a resident of Huntington Woods and formerly South Lyon, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 53. Born on August 5, 1971, in Detroit, Michigan, John was the cherished son of John and Edna Alford. John graduated from Garden City High School and went on to build a remarkable 31-year career as a toolmaker and project manager with Guardian Manufacturing. His dedication to his craft was evident in every project he undertook, but his true passion lay in the time he spent with his family and friends. An avid sports fan, John's heart was with the Detroit Lions, and he enjoyed nothing more than sharing his love of football with his children, especially through fantasy football with his son. John was a man who loved to work with his hands, always taking on new projects and constantly working on his home. He once told his wife, Elise, that he wanted to finish all the remodeling before turning 60. John's love for travel took him and Elise on adventures across Alaska, Europe, and various baseball parks around the country. Every year they embarked on a new journey, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Whether it was helping friends or entertaining loved ones at their cottage on Lake Thirteen in Farwell, Michigan, John was always there, offering his kindness and skill. John was known for his willingness to help anyone, anytime. He was truly "that guy" who could do it all, a one-of-a-kind person who touched the lives of everyone he met. John was a devoted husband, doing almost everything with Elise, and a loving father who coached softball and baseball for his children. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Dear brother of Belinda (Mike) Crider and Everett (Lori) Bradley Smith Jr. Proud uncle of Kristin (Dan) Smith, Benjamin (Liz) Crider, Jacob Smith, and Shannon Smith. Doting owner of Bassett hounds Chloe and Brandy. A visitation for John will be held on Friday, August 30, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (4 blks. E. of Woodward), Royal Oak, 48067. Friends and family will gather on Saturday, August 31, from 10:30 am until time of service at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
