Josh Tomaszewski

Gerald “Josh” Tomaszewski, born on May 7, 1966, passed away on October 10, 2024, at the age of 58. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Cheryl Lewis, who was his partner in crime, life, and love. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two daughters, Lauren and Lindsay, who were the light of Josh’s life. He also leaves behind his cherished fur baby, Libby, who was always by his side. Josh was the devoted son of Ronald Tomaszewski and was predeceased by his loving mother, Dorothy Tomaszewski and Maryann Kwiatkowski, as well as his mother-in-law, Linda Lewis, who welcomed him with open arms in heaven. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Brian Tomaszewski, Lisa (Robert) Rucinski, and Nancy (Robert) Angle. In addition, he is also survived by his brothers-in-law Randal Ernst and Eric (Gabby) Ernst along with his sister-in-law Maryhelen Kwaitkowski, and his many nieces and nephews who will forever remember him for his kindness and love. Josh held many titles in his life, from grill master to golfer and Schvitzer extraordinaire, but his favorite role was being a father. He loved nothing more than spending time with his girls; he was meant to be a dad of daughters, which is a role that he passionately took to heart. He was always there for them, whether he was volunteering for gymnastic meets, daddy daughter dances, and a host of other events that Cheryl signed him up for without a moments’ notice. He would eagerly agree and spring into action, quietly and behind the scenes making sure each event was pulled off to his level of perfection for his loving daughters and wife. Josh had an adventurous spirit who was outgoing and loved to explore, especially the turquoise waters of the Bahamas. Being a true nature lover at heart, Josh found joy in the simplest of pleasures. He loved being at their lake house, whether he was on the jet ski, kayaking, enjoying the water, or just soaking up the beauty of the beach and trees. He would take long golf cart rides and visit with his neighbors and friends. Josh loved to golf, earning him his famed hole in one, snowmobiling, and being on the water. He took great pride in his lawn, and his home was often the gathering spot for family and friends, always surrounded by the warmth of a bonfire and a hot grill. Josh was the ultimate host and was the happiest when he was grilling and cooking for others. He found immense joy in seeing everyone around him laughing, smiling, and having a good time. He would silently work the room to make sure everyone had a bite to eat, a beverage, a seat, and anything that would make others happy. Known for his selflessness, Josh was always the first to offer a helping hand, whether it was for family, friends, or anyone who needed it. His generosity and willingness to assist others never wavered, and he never sought recognition or praise. Josh was truly one of a kind—supportive, loving, and giving in every role he took on, from husband to father, to uncle, to friend. Josh and Cheryl’s home was always filled with laughter, and they were known for hosting parties and occasionally euchre games that brought together their loved ones. He also loved being involved in anything his daughters were a part of. He often volunteering his time and energy to support them in any way he could. Nothing brought more joy to Josh than his wife and daughters! He would stop at nothing to make them happy and did it with a smile on his face the entire time. To honor Josh’s memory, we ask that you all grill fabulous aged and appropriately seasoned pieces of meat and think of him. For his Schvitz family we ask that you take wonderfully hot steam and soapy platzas and know that would make Josh happy. Josh's absence leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will live on in the many, many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all but never forgotten. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors that he so dearly loved. A visitation for Josh will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 3-8pm and the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. (3blks. E. of Van Dyke) in Utica. A celebration of life service will take place at the end of visitation at 7pm.
