Karen A. Phillips

Karen Anne Phillips, 61, of Oakland County Michigan, passed away on November 25th, 2023. In sorrow, Karen is survived by her only daughter and lifelong best friend, Whitney Phillips, and her husband and love-of-her-life, Steve Davidson. Karen is also survived by her loving parents, with whom she shared a very close bond: mother Pauline Cahill (née Porter) and father Jim Cahill. Karen was born on October 3rd, 1962, in Royal Oak Michigan. Youngest of four, she was a welcome last addition to a loving family. As a child, Karen and her siblings kept each other entertained with singing, dancing, swimming, and celebrating holidays with each other and extended family. Karen is survived by her siblings: Bruce (Diane), Steve (Bessy), and Julie (Steve); and her nieces and nephews: Brad, Krizia, Amy and Paulina. Dedicating herself wholeheartedly to the care of her loved ones, Karen was the maternal center of strength for her immediate family. As a young mother, Karen put Whitney's needs above all else, working day and night towards the betterment of her daughter's future. Her success as a mother is emblemized by her continued closeness with Whitney; the two remained best friends through adulthood, sharing all the important moments and occasions together with Steve. Together with Steve for 35 years, Karen was absolutely dedicated to the love of her husband and to celebrating the little and big things in life with each other. Steve and Karen found joy in boating, dancing, partying and celebrating holidays together, especially decorating their house for the trick-or-treaters to visit on Halloween. Every year, they would slow dance in front of the newly-decorated Christmas tree as a tradition. These moments will be cherished by Whitney and Steve forever. Karen's joy and brightness lit up every room she entered. She had an energy that was contagious and made others want to smile and spread kindness. Karen made her work into a place of joy, serving as property manager for a beautiful apartment complex in Pontiac Michigan. Hosting Tiki parties, Mother's Day celebrations, Valentines Day get-togethers, and Christmas festivities, Karen facilitated a sense of community and welcomeness amongst tenants. Karen was a woman of many passions. She was devoted to God and the pursuit of spirituality. She was a loyal patriot who loved her country and fellow country mates, regardless of their race or creed. She was an animal lover, sharing her warmth and spirit with her pets, and stray animals alike. More than anything, Karen dedicated her life to LOVE. She will be remembered for her kind heart and loving spirit by countless friends, family members and even casual acquaintances. We will miss our Karen - our Wife, our Mumma, our Aunt, and our "Kare Bear" - but her presence will continue to live on in each of us. Her spirit will be remembered, cherished, and honored every day. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 1st between the hours of 2:00 and 8:00pm at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 E. Eleven Mile Rd.,(4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 11:00am at the funeral home. Karen's family requests that guests in attendance wear bright and happy colors, in lieu of traditional black outfits.
