Kenneth Theodore Sochowicz

Kenneth Theodore Sochowicz, age 78 of Royal Oak, passed away on April 3, 2020. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Max Anthony and Esther (Mazorowicz) Sochowicz on April 14, 1941. Kenneth was the beloved husband of 57 years of Mary Jane (Peltier) Sochowicz. Loving father of Kathleen (Steve) Poston, Kenneth (Amy) Sochowicz and Josh (Kelly) Sochowicz. Beloved Poppa to Jennifer, Allison, Katherine, Kelly, Matthew and Nicholas. Dear brother to the late Sharon (Sochowicz) Till. Ken was a truck driver for Meier Metals (Metals USA) for 38 years and was a former jeweler/owner of his business "The Sterling Silver Loft". Ken loved playing cards (Texas Hold 'Em), dominoes and had a passion for reading. Ken was widely known for his sense of humor and "dad" jokes. Ken was an artist and passed on his love for the arts to his children and grandchildren. He studied at the Detroit College for Creative Studies where he studied art. Ken was a member of the Ann Arbor Guild of Artisans and was a docent at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). Ken especially enjoyed his lifelong friends from Royal Oak Dondero High School (Class of 1961) and attended monthly lunches with his Dondero group for years. Ken's other interests included: gambling at the Greektown Casino (never betting more than $5), Cub Scout Leader, trips to Las Vegas, drinking black coffee, a love for black licorice, and he had an uncanny knowledge of odd and funny facts, (including spiders that eat fish). Ken was a purveyor of antiques and interesting art oddities, purchased at bargain prices from local yard and estate sales. He was a master at bargaining. Ken and his family participated for many years at the World's Largest Garage Sale in Royal Oak. He passed on his love of antiques, repurposing furniture and yard sales to his family. Ken was known for his generosity, kindness and love for all. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered in our hearts. A Memorial Service to celebrate Ken's life will be held on Sunday, April 18, 12 noon at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 am. Memorials may be sent to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, Michigan in Ken Sochowicz' name.
