Martha Ann Gray

Martha Ann Gray, a vibrant soul known for her adventurous spirit and love of life, passed away on September 13, 2023, in Birmingham, MI, at the age of 71. Her journey through life was marked by a deep connection with family and friends, a passion for travel and sports, and her love of dogs. Born on July 30, 1952, in Highland Park, Michigan, Martha was the daughter of William Frederick Gray and Dulce Delphine Stone Gray. She attended Seaholm High School and continued her education at Northern Colorado University and at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she cultivated her intellectual curiosity. Throughout her career, Martha worked in various business offices, with a focus on the financial and law sectors. Her dedication and commitment to her work were evident in all that she undertook. Martha also spent many summers as a volunteer, working in the Cranbrook Gardens in Bloomfield Hills. Martha enjoyed the grace and exhilaration of ice skating, a sport that allowed her to express her elegance and agility. She possessed an inherently social nature and cherished spending time with friends, creating lasting friendships and memories through shared laughter and camaraderie. Martha was an adventurer at heart and found immense joy in traveling to new places, where she could explore different cultures and experiences. She loved traveling to Colorado to visit her brother, Bill’s, family. Her love for golf was kindled by her younger brother, Jack, and she relished every outing on the golf course, particularly when surrounded by friends. Her competitive spirit made her always eager for a challenge. She had a special place in her heart for dogs, finding solace and companionship in their loyal presence. Martha is survived by her brothers, William S. Gray II (Judith) and Jack Gray (Pam), and her nephews and nieces, William P. Gray (Kristina), Gordon M. Gray, Jessica E. Gray, as well as her great-nieces, Lillian Gray, Robin Gray, Karolyn Nelson and Annabelle Nelson. Martha Ann Gray's life was a testament to the joy of discovery, the bonds of family and friends. Her memory will forever inspire us to embrace life's adventures and cherish the moments spent with those we hold dear. We will all remember Martha for the joy she brought to every event and activity. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share their fond memories of Martha on Friday, September 22, from 3-5 pm at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, located at 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak.
