Nabih Assad Khoury

Nabih Assad Khoury, a man characterized by wisdom, unwavering dedication, and a fervent pursuit of his passions, peacefully transitioned from this life on December 30, 2023, leaving behind a poignant legacy of love and resilience. Born on June 27, 1932, in Damascus, Syria, to Assad Khoury and Athena Zakhour Khoury, Nabih received his education in Damascus before embarking on a distinguished career as a judge in his homeland. In 1964, Nabih displayed remarkable courage by immigrating to the United States, where he pursued higher education at Wayne State University. It was during his time at WSU that he encountered the love of his life, Catharine Mutchler. The couple exchanged vows on November 3, 1967, in Detroit, marking the commencement of a profound and enduring partnership. Throughout his professional journey, Nabih devoted his life to the realm of law. In his later years, he transitioned to a career in sales, using his innate ability to connect with people through humor and a congenial personality. His penchant for jokes became a defining trait, with his family affectionately numbering them as he delighted in sharing them repeatedly. Nabih had an enduring passion for "fresh, hot, black" coffee and engaged enthusiastically in discussions about politics and psychology, generously sharing his insights and knowledge with those fortunate enough to be in his company. Nabih, the beloved husband of the late Catharine and a cherished father to Jim (Rebecca) Khoury, is remembered with love alongside his late son, Fred (the late Michelle) Khoury. He took immense pride in being a devoted "Jiddo" to Joseph, Alyssa, Nathan, and Juliana. Survived by his sister Nabiha "Alice" Khoury, Nabih also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Raised by their Aunt and Uncle Issa and Afranci Youssef, along with their cousins Zakhour Youssef, Philip Youssef, Olga Shammas, Najwa Katrib, and Riad Youssef, Nabih and Alice forged enduring bonds after the passing of their parents during their formative years. A man of quiet strength, kindness, and diverse interests, Nabih Assad Khoury will be tenderly remembered and profoundly missed by all whose lives he touched. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 10 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:30 at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd.
