Vera Lee Davey

Vera Lee (Harbrecht) Davey of Brooklyn, MI, formerly of Shelby Township, died on Saturday, May 25, 2024. She was 93 years old. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 22, 1930, Vera was the second of four daughters of the late Leo and Gertrude Harbrecht. She graduated as the class salutatorian from the Busch High School in Center Line, MI in 1948. On September 16,1949 she married James Davey; the two were happily married until his death in 2017. Vera was a force. A master of crochet and crafts, Vera often expressed her love of family and friends through gifts of handmade afghans, stockings, and tablecloths. A lover of rummage sales, baking, shopping, and a good bargain, Vera was quick to laugh and was rarely asked her opinion as she'd already shared it. She was a faithful and faithful-filled woman. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, MI proudly serving in their Ladies' Aid for 60+ years, as well as served as a Girl Scout leader. Vera was supportive of the Rotary Club of Utica and a recipient of their Paul Harris Award because of her years as the registrar of Camp Rotary. She was a dedicated organizer of her husband's WWII naval ship reunions. Those reunions took them on road trips all over the country, memories she routinely shared with all. Over the years, Vera worked for Masters Jewelers and Follo Jewelers both in Utica, and HalStan in Auburn Hills. Vera was the mother of the three, Linda Spycher of Brooklyn, MI, James Davey (Sherrie) of Simpsonville, SC, and JoAnne Busch of Chesterfield, MI. She was also the grandmother and great-grandmother to many. Vera is survived by her sister, Carol Lubinski of Prudenville, MI, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters-Evelyn Tharrett and Lois McCrudden, her three brothers-in-law, and her son-in-law, Keith Spycher. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at William Sullivan and Son Funeral Home (8459 Hall Road, Utica, MI). A funeral will be held on Friday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with a luncheon to follow at Filippa's Italian Restaurant (45125 Mound Rd., Shelby Twp.)
