Barbara L. Witherspoon

Barbara Witherspoon, a longtime resident of Macomb and former resident of Warren, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on May 20, 1939, Barbara lived a life defined by devotion to her family, dedication to her work, and deep friendships that enriched her days. She married the love of her life, Joseph Clay Witherspoon, on July 13, 1957, in Highland Park. Together they built a loving home and shared many wonderful years until Joseph's passing on May 4, 2013. Their enduring love story remained a source of inspiration to all who knew them. Barbara was the cherished mother of Joseph (Leanne) Witherspoon, Michael (Martha) Witherspoon, Mark (Cheryl) Witherspoon, LeeAnn (Kevin Labudde) Witherspoon, Karen (Joseph) Stevens, and David (Kim) Witherspoon. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in each of their accomplishments and milestones. She was the beloved daughter of the late John G. Dalling and Sylvia Dalling. Barbara was also preceded in death by her brother Jack Dalling and sister in law Ruth Dalling. She is survived by her brother Jerry Dalling and sister in law Donna Dalling. Barbara's greatest joy came from being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Barbara, Mitchell, Elizabeth, Kyle, Robert, Edwin, Ryan, Mackenzie, Morgan, Daniel, Emilie, and Lindsay; and her adored great-grandchildren: Reese, Davey, Mena, Natalie, and Casey. She delighted in creating lasting memories with them, especially during cherished Christmas brunches and annual KOA camping trips that became beloved family traditions. A devoted homemaker, Barbara also dedicated more than 30 years of service as a secretary with the Warren Consolidated Schools district. She was known for her kindness, reliability, and the genuine care she extended to everyone she encountered. Barbara valued the gift of friendship and especially treasured the time she spent with her dear friends affectionately known as the LadiesoftheCourt. Their companionship brought her laughter, support, and countless happy memories throughout the years. Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, unwavering love for her family, generous spirit, and the traditions she created that will continue to live on through those she loved. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, faithfulness, and family devotion will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Barbara's life with a visitation at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks of Van Dyke), Utica, on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 10 am - 12 pm, and a funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 12 pm from the funeral home.
