Betty Jean Hart

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Jean Hart (nee Reed), who left this world peacefully on December 2, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on July 4, 1939, Betty was known for her warmth, humor, and compassion and joy that she brought everyone. Betty was the cherished mother of Joe (Dorrene) Hart, Jennifer (Matthew Rietz) Hart, and Jon (Alexis) Hart, each of whom she loved deeply. She was a devoted Grandma to her grandchildren: Joseph (Chelsie) Hart, Alycia (Brandon) Walker, Anna (Thomas) Jarosz, John Hart, Jacob Hart, David Hart, Amber Hart, Logan Hart, and Landon Hart. She also delighted in the next generation as Great-Grandma to Marceline Sambrone-Hart. Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Hart, and her parents, Leonard and Nadine Reed. A loving and devoted mother, Betty had a way of being "always right" in an argument, something her family lovingly joked was simply one of her many known talents. Her kitchen was the heart of countless family gatherings, and she had an unmatched talent for feeding the people she loved. Her potato soup, ham rolls, and mac and cheese were legendary, and no one has ever been able to recreate them quite the way she did. Betty believed that no one should ever leave her house hungry, and she made sure there were always leftovers to take home. She cherished the simple joys of life, especially hosting backyard barbecues filled with family, laughter, and the irresistible aroma of her home cooking. These moments are treasured memories that her family will hold in their hearts forever Betty loved music and was often heard singing around the home. Creativity was woven into the fabric of her life; she was an exceptional seamstress who made clothes for her daughter and a dedicated knitter who passed her skills down to her family. Her crafts, like her meals, were made with great love. Betty Jean Hart leaves behind a legacy of love, family, tradition, and the comforting warmth of a home that always smelled like something delicious. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by those fortunate enough to know her. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 4-8pm, with a Rosary service from 5-5:30pm, at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. (3Blks E. of Van Dyke) in Utica. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, with instate at 9:30 until the time of the Mass at 10am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Utica. A burial will take place immediately following the funeral mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
