Brett Maki

Brett A. Maki, aged 39, passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 10th, 2023. Born on September 7, 1983, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he was the cherished son of Melanie and Steve. Brett was a devoted husband, father, son, grandson, brother, uncle and friend, whose love and kindness touched the lives of those around him. Brett found the love of his life in Carla, and they shared 12 beautiful years of marriage together. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he held a special place in his heart for Carla and their two daughters, Taylor and Brooke. As a proud girl dad, Brett always put his girls first. He was actively involved in their lives, from daily school drop-offs and pick-ups to building "girls only" forts. Brett embraced the role of Mr. Mom with joy and enthusiasm. In addition to his dedication to his family, Brett cherished his close-knit group of friends. They shared countless memories playing golf, cornhole, and hosting fun-filled nights at their home. Brett's genuine and warm personality made him a beloved friend to all who knew him. Brett is survived by his beloved wife Carla, and his two cherished daughters, Taylor and Brooke, who held his heart in their hands. He will be forever missed by his mother Melanie, stepfather Mike Birgy, father Steve, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gary and Sue Harris, whom he loved as his own parents. He also was so loved by his grandparents Paul and Dee Wensel. Brett was a dear brother to Carl (Alison), Ryan Maki, brother-in-law to Mike Harris, and sister-in-law to Jenny Harris. He was a proud uncle to Cayden, Lillian, Kaleigh, and Brendan, and a beloved "Uncle Brett" to numerous children within their tight-knit group of friends. Brett's two dogs Kate who they recently adopted and Chloe, who predeceased him, held a special place in his heart. A celebration of Brett's life will be held on Friday, June 16th, from 1:00-8:00 pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, located at 8459 Hall Rd., Utica, MI 48317. A sharing of memories will take place at 5:00 pm during the celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated. Contributions can be made to a fund established to support Carla, Taylor, and Brooke with their future education and expenses.
