Carl L. Peterson

Carl Lee Peterson was the son of Earlie Lee Peterson and Helen Irene (Sleet) Peterson. Carl was born on September 20, 1972 in Lansing, Michigan. Carl departed this life on October 26, 2019 of cardiac arrest at his home in Royal Oak, Michigan. Carl was named after his Great Uncle Carl Norman who never married nor had children. He was baptized as a youth at Holmes Road Church of Christ in Lansing, Michigan. Carl attended Lansing Public Schools and graduated from Everett High School in 1990. He continued his higher education at Michigan State University and received a BA Degree in Political Science and Government in 1997. Carl was the president of the Norman Reunion and very active with The Old Settlers Reunions especially the games. Carl loved the Michigan State Spartans, and all the Detroit sports teams. He enjoyed spending time with family, having barbeques in the backyard, camping, hiking, listening to music and attending concerts. Carl always went to the annual Wheatland Bluegrass Festival in Remus, Michigan. Carl worked at Moosejaw Mountaineering as a Customer Service Manager. He loved “The Madness” and spent the last seven years moving up in the company and developed into an amazing leader and mentor to many people. Carl was happiest when spending time with his daughter Rose and his life partner Sara Adams. They enjoyed going on vacations, visiting the Detroit Zoo, attending Rose’s school events and cheerleading competitions, roller skating, cooking meals and just being together as a family. Carl was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Irene (Sleet) Peterson, grandfathers Herbert W. Sleet and Ernest Peterson, grandmothers Rose Mae (Norman) Sleet and Bula Mae (Easelen) Peterson, Aunt Earlene (Peterson) Bradford, niece Goldie Rose Peterson, cousins Wilburt Bradford and Eddie Bradford. Carl is survived by his soul mate of 22 years, Sara Adams, daughter Rose Louise Peterson, father Earlie Lee Peterson (Betty), sister Christina Lynn Peterson (Odess Howard Jr), nephews Mariano Tarrel Lewis Jr. and Marcellus Tyree Lewis, uncles George Crawford (Sharon), Eugene Allen, and Huey Peterson (Millie); aunts Dorothy (Harris) Allen, Linda Berry, Addie Mae (Peterson) Parker, Annie Lois (Peterson) Smith, and Annie Pearl (Peterson) Owens, first cousins Susan Crawford Williams, Myra Allen Douse (Dayan), Mecca Allen Martin (Deric), Chad Crawford, Keishia Parker, Verda Parker, Rosetta Parker, Tommy Parker, Courtney Parker, Charlene Bradford, William Bradford, Machetta (Smith) Knox, Mark Smith, Meglasuis Harris, Mythius Blackman, and special cousin, Norma Killough who on many occasions had the role of cousin/mother. He had many friends and relatives that will truly miss him. Carl never met a stranger and he treated people the way he wanted to be treated. He never judged and he always found the good in people. His loving spirit will be missed. Carl Lee is gone, but he will never be forgotten. Memorial visitation will take place Friday, November 1, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service, 6:00 p.m., at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd., Royal Oak (4 blocks east of Woodward). A Celebration of Life will follow from 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. at the Elks Club, 2401 E. 4th Street, Royal Oak. An additional memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Wheatland Church of Christ, 3025 11 Mile Rd., Remus, MI. A repass will follow at the VFW Hall, 201 E. Main St., Mecosta, MI 49332.
