Catharine Khoury

Catharine Marie Khoury (née Mutschler), a beloved resident of Royal Oak, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on September 3, 1942, to Carl and Catharine Mutschler, Cathie graduated from Wayne State University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later earned her Master's in Hospice Care from Madonna University. Cathie devoted her career to caring for others as a registered nurse with the Visiting Nurse Association and Children's Hospital of Michigan. Even after retiring her dedication to service continued through her work with Angela Hospice. She was deeply committed to helping others, volunteering with organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Voices for Earth Justice, and Sandcastles. A compassionate and adventurous spirit, Cathie often referred to herself as a "wandering Christian." Raised Catholic, she enjoyed attending services at various houses of worship. She had a profound love for nature, enjoyed camping, and took great pride in cooking Middle Eastern cuisine native to her husband's culture-though she was especially renowned for her lasagna. Always open to new experiences, she embraced life's adventures, including memorable trips in the 1960s when, after graduating from nursing school, she and her friends traveled across California and Europe. Cathie was a proud mother of two boys, Fred and Jim, who were the light of her life. She cherished her role as a mother and took great pride in raising her sons, instilling in them the values of kindness, compassion, and a love for adventure. Her family was her greatest joy, and she always made sure to create lasting memories with them. Cathie was known for her kindness and reliability and was a true light in this world. She treated others as she believed Christ would have, with love and compassion. She had a natural ability to care for those around her and was truly a blessing to many, always willing to help in any way possible. Even in the face of dementia, she maintained her joyful spirit, sharing laughter and jokes with family and friends. Her distinct and unforgettable laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Loving mother of Jim (Rebecca) Khoury. Cherished grandmother of Joseph, Alyssa, Nathan, and Juliana. Cathie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 57 years, Nabih; her son and daughter-in-law, Frederick (Michelle); and her two siblings, Carl and Robert. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 10 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:30 am at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak. The Nurse Honor Guard of Southeast Michigan will pay tribute to Cathie at the time of memorial service.
