Cynthia C. Nelsen. Age 62. October 18, 2016. Longtime resident of Royal Oak. Loving mother of Scott and Christopher. Beloved companion of Jim Malik. Dear sister of Linda Sexton, Gail Crewdson, David Scott, Douglas Scott, Timothy Scott and James Scott. Also survived by her former husband, Phil, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. An avid traveler, Cindy loved going to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, North Bay, Ontario, Kentucky, and in the summer, Northern Michigan. She also loved visiting Florida throughout the year, especially to see her best friend, Jody, who was more like a sister than a friend. Cindy loved her friends and neighbors from Royal Oak, both past and present, that so many kept in touch, even after they moved meant a lot to her. Family get-togethers were very important to her, especially the Pumpkin Carving Party, Christmas Carol Sing-a-Long Party, and Christmas dinners she hosted. She loved her sign business and all her "sign guys." Her favorite restaurant was Gatsby's in Novi, and loved all of the "regulars" who hung out there. A dedicated patriot, Cindy loved her country caring deeply about those who served to protect it, appreciating our Armed Forces, past and present, and prayed for the safety of those currently serving. A woman of faith, she loved her church, Guardian Angels, and particularly enjoyed the Easter season. Cindy was a sports fan, enjoying Opening Day with the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings playoff games, and Michigan State Spartans Football and Basketball. She was passionate about animals filling her home with cats and dogs. She was very proud of Shawn, her Siberian Husky, and Rocket, Pepper, Neon, Grey Bear, Kiwi and Slash, her cats. Cindy liked cooking, gardening, good conversation, sunsets and live music. Known for making every holiday festive, she decorated her home for any occasion. Above all, Cindy loved her family and friends. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass 10:30 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Clawson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Michigan Humane Society or a charity of your choosing.
