Dale A. Davis

Dale A. Davis, 90, of Ann Arbor and West Bloomfield, died Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born July 1, 1934, in St. Johns, Michigan to Kenneth and Kathryn (Glasovatz) Davis. He spent his early childhood on the family farm near Frenchman's Corners in St. Johns, which had originally belonged to his maternal great-grandfather. The family were members of Greenbush United Methodist Church and Dale attended the local one room schoolhouse. Dale's family moved to Dearborn, Michigan after World War II, where Dale attended Dearborn High School and participated on the swim team. After graduating, Dale went on to Michigan State University where he became a member of Theta Chi. He took a break from his studies to serve in the Army as part of a bridge building unit on the Rhine, after which he returned to MSU and earned his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Dale then took a job with the State of Michigan's Highway Department where he worked for nearly fourteen years, before deciding to take on the challenges of a new career as a State Farm insurance agent. He maintained his office on Broadway in Ann Arbor for nearly twenty-five years. A resident of Ann Arbor for over sixty years, Dale was active in many local organizations including Toastmasters and the Exchange Club. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor and frequently served as an usher there. An avid golfer, he enjoyed nothing better than a Wednesday golf game with friends. In his later retirement, he became a great reader and could be found playing a game of Euchre with friends or his grandchildren. Dale was a loving husband to his wife of fifty-eight years, Gretchen Davis, who preceded him in death and was her devoted caregiver during her illness with Alzheimer's. He was a wonderful father to daughter Jessica (Ken) McRowe and a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Lydia and Eleanor McRowe, who all survive. A memorial service for Dale will be held at First United Methodist Church, 120 S. State Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan starting at 11:30 am on Monday, November 4, 2024. No flowers, please.
