David Anthony O'Leary

David Anthony O'Leary, age 84 of Macomb, MI passed away on June 29, 2022 with his loving family by his side following a brief illness. Dave was the beloved husband of Marlene for 62 years. He was a much-loved father to Timothy O'Leary, Lynn (Bryan) Stevens, Patrick (Kim) O'Leary, and Chris (Jeff Trask) Jarzyna. Cherished grandpa to Josh, Kyle (Jess), Daniel, Caitlyn, Sarah, Matthew, and Jack Treasured GrandDave to Eric, Andrea and Ben Proud GGpa to Carter and Ava. Education played a large role in David's life. He received his undergrad in Education from the University of Detroit, his Masters at Wayne State University and his PhD in Education from the University of Michigan. Dave began his career as an elementary teacher, and then later became an elementary principal in East Detroit Schools. He was also an active member representing the teacher's union in the East Detroit District. David loved his family, friends, history, traveling, classical music, U of M, favorite TV shows, reading and cribbage card games. His favorite place was the cottage on Georgian Bay, where he fished, sailed, hiked, swam and gardened. He had a wonderful life filled with world travel in retirement. He was blessed with family and lifelong friends in Florida, Michigan and Canada. Everyone had a kind word when talking about Dave. He was always willing to help and enjoyed chatting with friends, and even strangers on his walks in Florida and at the cottage. Dave was blessed with additional "families" as well. He was a staple at Cape Chin and is known and loved by so many there. In Florida, the neighbors have become like family to both Dave and Marlene. In Michigan, the "Shannon court" has been a great joy and a discovery of new and caring friends. He will be missed by so many who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him, especially his loving family, who have had so many memories and so much guidance from this amazing man. Family will be available at 9:30 a.m. for visitation on July 8th, 2022 St. Isidore's Church at 18201 23 Mile Rd., Macomb, MI. The Memorial Mass follows at 10:00 AM. There will be a luncheon after, with further details provided after the mass. Due to flower allergies in the family, the family asks that flowers not be sent.
