David A. Raether

David "Dave" Allan Raether, age 64, of Warren, Michigan passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 in Warren, Michigan. Dave, born in Detroit on June 11, 1955, was a loving and dedicated family man. His humor and gregarious personality was evident in any room, even if it meant bunny ears in many attempted photographs or comical remarks that typically elicited a smile and jocular refrain of "Oh, Dave" from Mary Elizabeth, wife of 43 years. Dave's three sons, David "Rae", Sean, and Derek will remember a man that wanted the best for his family and worked hard to try and provide it. Be it playing basketball, helping with school, sharing an intellectual conversation with his sons, modeling a strong work ethic or his appreciating of knowledge; Dave wanted to be there for his family. As a grandfather to George, Liam, Luke, Estella, and Coramina; Dave relished the role of playground, clown, and storyteller to his grandchildren. Playtime with grandpa meant everything to them, even breaking the rules of no jumping on the bed or playing ball in the house. Dave was also a proud employee of Utica Community Schools for thirty years, retiring in 2010, and a talented artist in his own right, working for several years as a professor's assistant at Macomb Community College. He was even commissioned to create Falcon artwork around Henry Ford II High School where he worked for a number of years. Seeing Dave work his magic at a potter's wheel was truly a sight to behold. Many surviving him likely have pieces of his creativity and these will now serve as cherished memories of a gifted and caring man. His extended family of in-laws saw him as a brother, a son, a friend. Always a character and willing to help, Dave was embraced by the Lang family as one of their own and he, in turn, accepted and loved all that came into what he called his family. He leaves this world husband to his beloved wife Mary Elizabeth nee Lang. Loving Father of David "Rae" William Danielle "Dani" Raether, Sean Phillip Raether, and Derek Louis Raether. Proud Grandfather of George, Liam, Luke, Estella, and Coramina. Caring In-law of Mary Annette Lang, Dorothy Lang Moreton, William J. Mirella Lang, Philip Mary Beth Lang, Annette Gerardo Lang Minicilli, Angela Kevin Kelley, and Joseph Carolyn Lang. "Uncle Dad" to Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews. Brother of Debra and Karan.
