Dennis Horney

Horney, Dennis C. Age 58 passed away with his loved ones at his side on December 1, 2016. Dennis was born to Paul and Ernestine Horney on December 4, 1957 in Highland Park. He graduated from Berkley High School in 1976 and went on to study communications at the University of Michigan, graduating with his bachelor's degree in 1980. Following that, he was known by all as a true blue, diehard U of M football fan. Dennis worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for over 17 years, primarily serving the Farmington Hills community, and recently retired. He was a life-long avid golfer beginning when his father, Paul, kindled his passion for it at 14 years of age. Dennis was always on the cutting edge of new music, and eager to share his new found artists with others. He was a movie critic, skateboarder, disc golfer, NASCAR and hydroplane racing fan, and an annual Woodward Dream Cruise spectator. He was a history buff and often visited numerous historical sites within the United States. Loving brother to Cheryl (the late George) Hall, Thomas (Vickie) Horney, Kathryn (Christopher) Parsons, and Teresa Horney. Loving uncle to Melissa, Jennifer, David, Candice, Tiffany, Shea, and Zoe, as well as great-uncle to fourteen nieces and nephews who adored him for his magic tricks. The entire family would like to give special thanks to his Aunt Sue Huhn and best buddy Steve Sarris, for going above and beyond these last four years with their dedicated love and support. We'd also like to thank the staff at Beaumont Hospice for their exceptional care this past four days. Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, December 3, from 4:00-9:00 pm, with time to share stories starting at 7:00 for those wanting to share special moments. Gathering will be at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road (4 blocks E of Woodward), Royal Oak. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit, 7700 Second Avenue, Suite 602, Detroit, MI 48202 (http://www.bbbsdetroit.org/) or any charity of the donor's choice. There will also be a Toys for Tots donation box available in the lobby for those who wish to donate a new, unwrapped toy.
