Dorothy Heider

Dorothy Heider (nee Shope), a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. Heider, and her cherished grandchild, Christopher. Dorothy's loving spirit, kind heart, and dedication to her family and community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Dorothy was born on October 8, 1931 to George and Louisa Shope. She grew up and developed a strong work ethic and a deep sense of compassion for others. After marrying the love of her life, William J. Heider, they embarked on a lifelong journey together, building a family centered on love, respect, and unwavering support. As a mother, Dorothy was a source of unconditional love and guidance for her two daughters, Ann (Arthur) Zsido and Sue (Michael) Fagan. She was their rock, always there to provide a listening ear, offer wise counsel, and celebrate their achievements. Dorothy's nurturing nature extended beyond her immediate family, as she embraced her role as a proud grandmother to Matthew (Kelly), Nicole (Ryan), Angela (John), and David (Marie). She found immeasurable joy in their accomplishments, and her love for them knew no bounds. Dorothy's legacy of love continued with her great-grandchildren: Owen, William, Christian, Lauren, Peyton, Zane, Briella, and Layla. She cherished the time spent with them, reveling in their laughter, stories, and precious milestones. Her role as a great grandmother brought her immense happiness, and she delighted in being a guiding presence in their lives. Dorothy was an active member and a member of the Choir of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Caseville, Michigan. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found solace, strength, and community within the church. She dedicated her time and energy to various church activities and committees, always seeking ways to serve and uplift others. Dorothy's selflessness extended to her involvement in volunteering at food banks and reaching out a helping hand to those in need. Her compassionate nature touched the lives of many, and her acts of kindness left an indelible mark on her community. In her leisure time, Dorothy pursued her passions with great enthusiasm. She found solace in knitting and creating beautiful things. She also was an avid reader, immersing herself in the world of literature and allowing her imagination to soar. She enjoying traveling and world adventures. Dorothy cherished long walks along the beaches of Caseville, Michigan, finding peace and serenity in the calming rhythm of the waves. Dorothy Heider's departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and community. Her genuine love, generosity, and unwavering faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we mourn her loss, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the profound impact she made on the lives of others. May her memory be a guiding light, reminding us to always extend a helping hand, embrace our loved ones, and cherish every moment we have together. Friends and family are invited to gather and share their cherished memories of this remarkable woman at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. (3Blks of Van Dyke), Utica on Friday (June 16th) for a visitation from 1pm until the time of service at 7pm. A private burial will take place at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Eastpointe, Michigan. In honor of Dorothy's life donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
