Dorothy "Dot" Jenuwine

Dorothy "Dot" Jenuwine of Shelby Township has passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Dot was born on July 26, 1934, to Daniel and Eunice Adair (nee Hankins). Dot is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas "TJ" Jenuwine, her loving daughters, Kim Jenuwine and Dr. Lori (Walter) Masley, and her cherished grandson, August Masley. She is predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Eunice Adair, her daughter, Pamela Jenuwine, and her brothers, Ed (Bernice) Adair and Bill (June) Adair. Dot truly had a life she could hang her hat on. That is, if she ever actually wore a hat because she would not mess up the hairdo. Her first accomplishment was having perfect attendance from kindergarten to graduation. To ensure this, she would walk to school even on snow days, just in case. Her stellar school performance led to her becoming a valedictorian of her senior class at Fitzgerald High School in 1952. Due to her immense shyness, she made a deal with the salutatorian to give the speech; she preferred to work behind the scenes. After school, Dot became a secretary at General Motors and later for Utica Community Schools. While she would bemoan the limited career choices for women at that time, she always felt lucky that she would still become a secretary in any case. She seemed born to it, often leaving notes in shorthand around the house. It wasn't too long before she met Tom Jenuwine while she was in the bridal party of a wedding and he was crashing it for free beer. They married on January 25, 1958, and settled down in Shelby Township where they raised 3 very independent women. She taught them that women truly could have it all, but more importantly, if you are going to laugh about something later… you might as well laugh about it now. This attitude helped her tolerate TJ for 67 years. Dot enjoyed her hobbies which did NOT include cooking, but did encompass crafts, gardening, quilting, scrapbooking, and golf. The latter being an attempt to avoid being a golf widow and finding out she was actually pretty good at it, getting her first hole-in-one well before TJ did. After continuously pestering her children about having grandchildren, her hard work paid off with the arrival of her most favorite thing in the world, her grandson August, whom she loved to the moon and back. Dot will be remembered for enjoying a good practical joke, her love of cats, being fun-loving, and putting her family first. She felt blessed with her wonderful friends and family as well. Her only regret was not getting that tattoo she wanted! The family asks that any memorial donations in honor of Dot be made out to the Disabled American Veterans at . A visitation for Dot will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 2-8pm at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. (3blks. E. of Van Dyke) in Utica. Visitation will continue at the funeral home the following day, Friday, September 19, from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am. A private burial service will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
