Dorothy E. Meyer

"Thou, Jesus, thou alone shalt be my heart's delight forever; no shallow pomp or vanity from thee my heart shall sever; Thou art my Glory! Thou my Light! Thy Word will keep me in the fight. My faith shall leave Thee never!" Dorothy was born on November 29, 1928, in Detroit to Emma and Hugo Lange. She grew up on the east side of Detroit on Seneca with her late brothers, Harold and Raymond who died as an infant. Dorothy was confirmed at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Detroit on March 29, 1942. The words written above were on her confirmation invites and reflected her deep and abiding faith in her Savior. Dorothy graduated from Detroit High School of Commerce on June 18, 1946. Dorothy reacquainted with her childhood sweetheart, Edwin in 1947, upon his return from serving valiantly in the army during World War 2. They were married on June 11, 1949. They purchased a home in St. Clair Shores where they raised their 4 children, Ronald William (1950), Craig Martin (Susan) (1953), Sharon Ann (James) (1955), and Scott Edwin (Susie & the late Gwen) (1967). Dorothy's greatest joy was in serving Jesus. She served on many committees over the years at St. Mark Lutheran (St. Clair Shores) and later at Bethany Lutheran (Detroit). Dorothy was a gifted seamstress and loved to needlepoint. She had the gift for gardening and loved taking a house and making it a home. She was able to use this gift of interior design in her 25-year career at J.L. Hudson. Her greatest pride was her family and truly enjoyed being with her grandchildren Christina (late Todd), Steven (Michelle), Late Elizabeth, Paul (Traci), Amanda, Nicole (Jesse), Jacob (Rachel), Isaiah (Stephanie), and her great grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Isabella, Caden, Declan, Linden, Hunter, Harrison and Hayden. Jesus called Dorothy home to glory on August 19, 2026. We will forever carry her in our hearts until we see her again in Heaven! A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile Rd., Macomb, MI 48042.
