Edward Wahl

It is with hearts filled with grief, gratitude, and love that we share the news of the passing of our father, Edward Wahl. Our dad had been living with various health challenges for years and passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones. The grief we feel is profound. And so, too, is the gratitude. Our dad was a good friend to many, an avid golfer, and a world traveler, who most of all enjoyed socializing and celebrating life with his friends and family. We were lucky to have had so many years with him. Edward Wahl was born August 22, 1941, the second child of Elfreida (Jaeckle) and Hugo Wahl, both immigrants from Germany. Dad grew up on the east side of Detroit, graduated from Denby High School (and loved coordinating their reunions), the University of Michigan for both undergrad (Engineering) and an MBA. He worked for the family tool and die business and then went off on his own with several other business ventures. Those who know our dad understood his abiding love for ice cream (particularly Breyer's brand, but anything would do in a pinch). In the last month or so of his life he could not eat solid food, which was one of the last pleasures he had in life. He had dinner with Susan and Elizabeth at a local Italian restaurant recently and upon finding out that they were out of soup for the day, proceeded to order an entree bowl of ice cream (!). He had a keen ability to field life's curveballs with acceptance and humor. Dad lived his life fully. He travelled extensively - more so than we had remembered while looking through his extensive photo archives. He had no shortage of companions that could be called on at any time to meet him up north, at the golf course or at his favorite local restaurants. Ed was predeceased in death by his mother Elfrieda, father Hugo and dear brother Jerry. He is survived by his older sister Ruth Bellissimo, many nieces and nephews, his four children, Brian (Amanda), Greg (Magali), Susan Wahl, Elizabeth Wahl, and granddaughter Charlotte Wahl. While our dad will be greatly missed, we'll continue to embrace his memory, and to carry his spirit forward. A celebration of life is to take place on Saturday, August 2 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the home of Brian & Amanda Wahl, 3 Oxford Boulevard, Pleasant Ridge, MI 48069.
