Elaine Narkus

Elaine grew up on the eastside of Detroit, attending Catholic schools and graduating from St. Anthony's High School in 1957 where she also played basketball. She was an avid sports fan her whole life, especially basketball (Pistons and Spartans) and baseball (her beloved Tigers). She had fond memories of downtown Detroit in her youth. Elaine married Joseph June 6, 1959. They had 60 wonderful years together. Elaine was an excellent bowler, another passion she and her husband shared. They were also members of the Bayside yacht club where they celebrated many good times with friends and family on the water when they later moved to Sterling Heights. There were decades of Euchre parties, holiday parties, food and laughter. She and Joe had so much fun. Elaine worked at Detroit Missile in her youth and retired from Utica Community Schools in payroll. After retirement she continued her love of cards with her pinochle club as well as playing with her beloved sister Cookie and her brother-in-law Paul. It was a weekly challenge. Elaine was quite the card shark, often the big winner in family Texas Hold 'em. They were the best of times. Elaine had three daughters: Veronica (the late Ken), Karen (Jon) and Jacqueline (Rick); she had four grandchildren, Jeff (Alicia), Mark (Megan), Joseph (Lauren), and Sydney, and she had five great-grandchildren. Elaine's mother Mildred lived with the family until she passed at 95. Elaine felt blessed with her family and the best companion in her husband, Joe. She was content with a life that was filled with love that tempered the pain life so often brings. She was a wife, mother, sister, caregiver, and friend. She was devoted to her family and had deep faith in our Lord Jesus. She was a warm and gentle soul with a smile that could light the darkest night. She will be missed beyond measure. She was loved beyond words. Elaine's family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday August 25, 2020, from 1:00 until 9:00pm with eulogy and memory sharing at 6:30pm and a rosary service at 7:30pm at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks east of Van Dyke), Utica. Her funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday August 26th at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 48115 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Twp., In State at 9:30a.m. until the time of her funeral Mass at 10:00a.m.
