George William Holland

George William Holland, of Wolverine Lake, Michigan, passed away on January 11, 2023 at the age of 94. George is the cherished husband of the late Jeannine, who preceded him in death in 2008; the loving father of Jacquelyn (Gene) Rife and Christopher (Julie) Holland; the adored grandfather of David (Holly) Rife, Justin (Kelly) Rife, Benjamin (Jacqueline) Holland, and Kirsten (Richie) Dunphy; the dear great-grandfather of Eisley, Eden, Amelia, Kegan, Tristan (Ivy), Avery, Harris, and baby Dunphy; the beloved brother of the late Donald and the late Brent Holland; and is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Allen (Carol) Firestone, Kay (Paul) Kiekbusch; as well as many nieces and nephews. George was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He left high school and joined the United States Navy at the age of 16, and proudly served his country until he was discharged from the Navy after breaking both legs. George met his future wife, Jeannie, while working for her father, Albert Firestone, at a local dealership. He had a passion for classic cars and was a member of the Ford Restorers Club. George worked many years at the Ford Proving Grounds in Romeo. George and Jeannie moved to Florida in 1989, after which he never put on a suit again, and he started wearing a cowboy hat and boots as his daily attire. George would always enjoy being out and about, especially hearing children say to their parents "look mommy, there goes a real cowboy" as he walked by. He moved to Texas in 2005, and then back to Michigan in 2022, but he always called Michigan his home. George enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George's family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks East of Van Dyke), Utica. A funeral service will continue on Saturday, January 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Van Hoosen Jones/Stoney Creek Cemetery, Rochester Hills.
