Ivy A. Schaffer

Ivy A. Schaffer, a longtime resident of Oak Park, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Ivy was born July 8, 1941 in Chicago to parents Jacob and Ivy Arndt. Ivy will be remembered for her humor, kindness, passion and MANY HUGS to everyone she met! Ivy worked many years as a bus driver for Birmingham Public Schools retiring 26 years ago. In her spare time, Ivy loved serving the Veterans holding many fundraisers like Casino Trips to donate to the VFW and it's Auxiliary. Ivy was VFW State Auxiliary President in 2003-2004, and MOCA President 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. Ivy loved volunteering at the VA Hospital in Detroit visiting all the hospitalized Veterans. She was also involved in the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star Organizations. Ivy also donated to the Animal Shelter in Detroit. Beloved Wife of the late James Schaffer, loving Mother of Ivy (John Simpson) Wimmer, cherished Grandmother of Allen (Angie Johnson) Gobie, Christina (Jerry Lambert) Gobie, and Ivy (Myles Herritt) Richert; Great Grandmother to Brian, Carter, Patience, Jerry IV, and Parker. Dear sister to Mary (Mike) Zobel, the late Ann (Ruben) Rosales, Jake Butch (the late Roberta) Arndt, Carol Arndt, Kathy (Bill) Self and Antoinette (Scott) Greening Shackelford; BFF/Sister of 54 years, Kathleen (Gary) Godard, Friend and 'adopted' daughter Debbie (Pete) Stevens; Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, many cousins. Many neighbors also called Ivy "Mom" and she appreciated their support. Visitation for Ivy will be on Friday, April 28th at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road, Royal Oak from 2 pm to 8 pm. At 7 pm the Auxiliary ritual will start. Family and Friends will come together on Saturday, April 29th at the Funeral Home from 12 noon until the funeral service. Pastor Kristin McCarthy will officiate the Service at 1 pm. Interment to follow at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley. There will be a luncheon held afterwards for close family and friends. Details will be shared the day of the funeral.
