James Green

James Green, 88, passed away on Sept. 9th to be with his wife, Marlene(d.2002). He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva Green, his siblings, Jack (Babs) Green and David (Muriel) Green. He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he immigrated to the U.S at the age of 21 with big dreams of starting a new life, and that he did! Jim met and married Marlene and had 3 daughters that loved him dearly, Carrie Huzarski, Kim (Larry) Moore and Kelly (Rob) Drexler. He was a proud grandfather to Emily (Jordan) Begian, Ashley Moore, Brandon (Stephanie) VanGieson, Derek VanGieson, Jessica Moore and Jacob (Jourdyn) Dixon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after his arrival in the U.S. He shared his fond memories of his time in the service with anyone willing to listen, even up to the last months of his life. After his discharge, he accepted a job at Chevrolet Gear and Axle, where he worked as a sheet metal worker for over 35 years. Jim was a dedicated family man that worked many hours so that he could provide the life that his family enjoyed for many years. He was a role model to many by showing that a good education and a strong work ethic will provide opportunities for a better life. Jim had many interests throughout his life including bowling, going to the club, reading the daily newspaper, watching the English Premier League and, most of all, socializing with his many admirers over a few Guinesses. After his retirement, he enjoyed taking his grandkids to and from school, where he was able to create many loving memories that they will cherish and share throughout their lives. He was an exceptional father that took care of his daughters and they will always be grateful for that. He was a true Irishman, but also a proud American. We love you Dad. We love you Grandpa. Give Mom a hug for us. Family and friends will be gathering to celebrate James life with a visitation and funeral service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. Van Dyke) Utica. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 4-8pm and a funeral service on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11am. James will be laid to rest next to Marlene at Utica Cemetery, Utica, Michigan will military honors.
