John W. "Bill" Dona

John W. "Bill" Dona of Utica, Michigan; passed away at Wadhams Valley Senior Community in Lenox, Michigan on July 1, 2019 at the age of 93. He was born July 5, 1925 to the late Regina and William Dona. Bill grew up in Gillespie, Illinois; and in 1943 he joined the United States Navy. After his service in the Navy, he moved to Michigan, met his wife Annie and they raised their family. In the early 60's he started working for Victor Steel and Supply Company in Detroit, Michigan. He later retired in 1994. Bill enjoyed many things in life, but nothing more than spending time with family and friends. He cherished sharing old stories and memories about the younger years. He was an avid horseman. He enjoyed and loved trail riding, horse shows, and hanging out at the barn. He will be truly missed by all. Bill is survived by wife of 24 years, Barbara A. Dona; his children: Joe (Pat) Dona, Remi (Carol) Dona, Peggy Dona and Howard (Denise) Rickel. Father-in-law of Linda Rickel. His brother Joe Dona. Proud grandfather of: Jessica Dona, Tricia Rickel, Monique Rickel, Serenity Dona and Royce Laundry. Great Grandchildren: Dalton and Lilian Poppe, Sloan Rickel, Joshua and Taylor Rickel. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Dona, his children: Joyce and David, his parents: William and Regina Dona; his sisters: Marie Gnoth, and Madeline Dona; nieces: Susan Clark and Jodi Dona. On Wednesday, July 10th there will be memorial gathering from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with his Memorial Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks east of Van Dyke Avenue) Utica. The contributions will go toward the purchase of a horse that will be named in honor of Bill for this kids/youth camp OR a donor's choice of charity.
