John Adam McDonald It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of John Adam McDonald of Royal Oak, Michigan, who was born on January 15th, 1964 and passed on Friday, August 9, 2024 at the age of 60 years. John was part of a large family and was one of nine children. John is survived by his two daughters, Brittany and Tiffany, and his son, Troy. He is survived by his mother, Doris McDonald, and four brothers and three sisters: Lenny Stewart (son Ryan, daughter Paige), Bob Stewart (wife Kathy, daughter Jennifer and sons Aaron and Jonathan), Linda McDonald Serapilia (husband Larry, sons Jason and Shawn), Vernon McDonald, Jr. (wife Liesa, daughters Chelsey and Hailey), Lauret McDonald Cwiek (son Ethan), Rockie McDonald (wife Donna, daughters Cheyenne and Savannah), Kimberly McDonald Kaminski (husband Kurt, son Brian, daughter Randi). His father, Vernon (aka Big John) is deceased as well as his younger sister, Loleta McDonald (daughter, Heather). John enjoyed being "Papa" to the grandchildren of his long-time girlfriend, Barb Johnson, and her daughter, Amanda. The grandchildren, Silas, Wesley and Carter, played games with him on the big PS5, had sleep-overs with movie night and lollipops plus they were looking forward to fishing with him on his boat. John always said "Grandchildren were life's greatest blessing." John had a passion for hunting, fishing and everything outdoors. He also loved all types of fighter jets. He was a big sports fan of our Detroit teams, the Lions and Tigers. He loved cutting and trimming trees and worked many long and hard hours helping others in their need. Every Fall, spending time with his brothers hunting was especially important to him. They took many trips together up into northern Michigan and to the great Rocky Mountains. John was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the flight deck of the Navy's aircraft carrier, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) during Desert Storm. He proudly served the United States for four years. Upon returning home he became a U.S. Mail carrier, enjoying service to the Berkley community. In his later years, he became a driver of a semi-truck, an 18 wheeler, taking many trips cross-country. John was a believer and follower of our Lord, Jesus Christ and enjoyed studying God's holy word. A church service will be held for John on Friday, August 16th at 11:00AM at the Community Bible Church, 1888 Crescent Lake Rd., Waterford, Michigan. His military honors and burial will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, Michigan on Tuesday, August 27th at 2:00PM. We love you John, until we meet again!
