Kenneth Robert Johnson

Kenneth Robert Johnson age 81 passed away on June 19, 2020 in Warren. He was born on June 17, 1939 In Calumet Michigan to Theodore and Mamie Johnson He was proud of his Upper Peninsula Finnish heritage and spent his early childhood on the shores of Lake Superior. Here he spent the summers of his youth and returned there annually through his life. His family moved to southeast Michigan and he graduated from Madison High school . The next chapter of his life began with the United States Airforce where he proudly served his country and learned a trade that would support him the rest of his life. He worked as a hydraulic repairman and ultimately retired from Rouge Steel. He had four daughters and resided in Hazel Park during their formative years. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and baseball in general , not having any sons, he took his great love of baseball to the community where he was a little league coach for the Hazel Park Recreation department for 25 years. He also coached his daughters softball teams and was an important figure to boys and girls alike. He was full of encouragement and team playing and made a lasting impression on so many children in his time as a coach. He loved to dance and swept his wife Violet off her feet and they were married in Las Vegas on April 20, 1991. With this, his family grew and he stepped right unto the role of having a handicapped step daughter who he adored and cared for. In the 29 years together he and his wife retired to their beautiful cabin in the woods of Mesick Michigan. Here he could enjoy his love of fishing and hunting for deer and mushrooms. He took up woodworking as a hobby and most proudly became active in the Amvets post #120 of Mesick. He and his wife enjoyed their time in northern Michigan and hosted many legendary family and friends memorial weekends. They also had a rich community in their winter months at the Lettuce Lake Travel Resort in Florida. If you knew Ken for a few moments or for years, you would know he was a friend to everyone and will be sorely missed. Beloved husband of VI. Loving father of Lori (Joey) Johnson-Golden, Kelly (Mike) Horvath, Tina (Glen) Johnson-Bergers and the late Sherry Johnson. Step Father to George (Tammy) Johnson, Toni Patton, Becky (Terry) Harris, the late Penny Johnson. Proud grandfather of Jason (Kelly), Chelsea, (David), Sunni (Erik), Jasper (Carriana), Harrison, Cullen, Paige, Tyler, Addie , Jordan, Melissa, Christina and six great grandchildren. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly on Monday, June 29th at a private event. A public memorial celebration will held at a later date once the restrictions have been lifted. Memorial contributions to Hazel Park Recreation Department, 620 W.
