Kristy Athena Haas

Kristy Athena Haas, born in Warren, Ohio to the late George and Esther Leogas, passed away on October 17, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Marc for 55 years, devoted mother to Skye Christopher George Haas, Brandon Marc Haas, and his fiancée, Lacey Watson, and a loving Yia-Yia to Zachary. Kristy is also survived by her brother William Leogas and was preceded in death by her brother John Theoharis. A passionate lover of the outdoors, Kristy found joy in her garden year-round, crafting a personal paradise in her yard, for herself, her family and her friends. When she traveled up north, she cherished time spent near the water, enjoying activities like hiking, kayaking, swimming, or simply relaxing to take in sunsets over Lake Michigan. Kris especially loved the many incredibly beautiful waterfalls that are tucked away in the wooded Upper Peninsula. Her creative aesthetic extended to photography, where she not only captured the beauty of the world and the deep humanity of different individuals; she also shared her skills by teaching young adults at Focus Hope. Kristy was a proud, active member of the UAW; upon retiring from Chrysler after 30 years, she was able to enjoy a long and fulfilling retirement, filling her life with love of family and friends, and her passion for creative pursuits. Her commitment to community was also evident in her volunteer work with ACCESS, where she helped to establish the Arab-American Museum. Kristy also volunteered extensively at Cass Technical High School, where her fund-raising activities, as well as her central role in establishing a vibrant and active orchestra parents association, helped make possible Marc's outstanding music program, which included providing private instrumental music lessons for hundreds of children. Nothing angered Kristy as much as seeing injustice perpetrated upon others; in a world that is rife with injustice, she was active in this struggle from the 60's into her own 60's, and beyond. Above all, Kristy deeply loved her husband, and her two sons, and was very proud of how they were able to reflect her own empathy and love for others. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at The Preserve at All Saints Cemetery.
