Larry Prieur

Larry Prieur, age 78, a beloved resident of Farmington, Michigan, who passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in Bingham Farms, Michigan. Larry was born on June 7, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to his late parents, Gerald and Shirley (née Smith) Prieur. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and dedication to his nation. Larry was a man of many passions, chief among them fly fishing, a hobby he pursued with great enthusiasm. He was an active member of the Michigan Fly Fishermen Club, where he shared his love for the sport with fellow enthusiasts. As life progressed, Larry faced the challenge of losing his hearing, a journey that led him to become deeply involved with DEAF C.A.N. (Deaf Community Advocacy Network). His commitment to this community was unwavering, and he served as a dedicated board member, helping to shape the future of the organization, including being part of the team that selected its director. Larry was also a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating Arena Services and Products (ASAP). He was the innovative mind behind a specialized system for cleaning dasher boards in ice arenas, a service that took him across the Midwest and East Coast as he cared for numerous ice arenas. Larry was a devoted husband to his wife of 41 years, Donna Prieur (née Kracht). He is survived by his siblings, Gerald Jr. (Fran) Prieur, Gregory Prieur, Michael (Valencia) Prieur, and Raymond Prieur, as well as his brother-in-law, George Herbert, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Tim Reinhold. Larry was preceded in death by his siblings Patrick Prieur and Cheryl Herbert. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews, who remember him fondly for his kindness, humor, and the love he shared with them. Larry's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family, friends, and community. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his contributions to the deaf community, and his impact on the world of ice arena maintenance. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Larry's life with a visitation on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica from 4-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church 45160 Van Dyke, Utica with a visitation from 10am until the time of service at 11am.
