Linda Joy Leffler

Linda Joy Leffler left this world and joined the angel choir on July 28, 2023. She is probably already its director. She leaves behind a family who loves and misses her, many friends who admire her, and a world much less bright-but she left not a single regret. Her life was full and beautiful, and we should all be blessed to be so brave and so loved. Linda was born on January 9, 1945, to Vernon Lewis and Dora Goodman-two extraordinary people who loved her immeasurably and who no doubt met her at Heaven's gate. She grew up on a farm outside Hamilton, Ohio, and lived every girl's dream of having her own pony, Candy-except that her pony liked to toss her over the fence when he was tired of riding. Her sister, Jo Ellen, was her childhood and grownup best friend and constant companion through the many ups and downs of their lives. Her brother, Ben, is a treasure who grew more precious with time, one she wouldn't trade for the world. Linda met her future husband, John, at a church bowling event, and together they raised a beautiful family that started with a son Steve and two daughters, Julie and Lori. There has never been a woman who loved her children more or who has been more proud of the people they've become. Their loving family has grown to include ten grandkids ranging from age 28 to 11. Their lives are blessed with wonderful memories of their grandma attending their games, recitals, and milestones, always their biggest cheerleader. Her time with them was her life's greatest joy, and they will treasure those memories always. But Linda wasn't content to just be on the sidelines. She was an active member of her community and her church. She was well-respected and loved by her coworkers at the Taubman Company where she was an executive administrative assistant. She taught piano lessons, led Boy Scout and Brownie troops and pitched for the church softball team. She reveled in many life-long friendships. Her neighborhood euchre and pinochle friends were always a highlight even if no one ever knew what trump was. In her 60's she joined Heart of Hills theater group where she sang and learned to tap dance. Her favorite role in one of the performances was Pinnocchio. Anyone who knows Linda knows about her love of games and puzzles. Right up to the end she could still beat you in a game of Scrabble, Chess, or Rummikub, even if it was due to "Grandma rules". Speaking of shortcuts, Cliff Notes got her through many months of Book Club when she didn't have time to read the book due to her busy schedule but didn't want to miss the time with her friends. Linda loved to travel. It didn't matter if it was an elaborate cruise with her church friends or the girls or a cross country road trip in a pop-up. She made it to 48 states but somehow missed North Dakota and never got to Hawaii. But her hearts ultimate destination has always been Heaven and the Savior she fixed her eyes upon so faithfully here on Earth. May she find comfort and rest well in His arms forever. Linda is survived by her husband, John; children, Steve (Jennifer) Leffler, Julie (Jerry) Parks, Lori (Ryan) Leszczynski; grandchildren, Justin, Brett, Logan, Alex, Jake, Carson, Natalie, Abbey, Brady and Camden; sister, Jo Ellen (Keith) Cramer; brother, Ben (Lidia) Goodman; sister-in-law, Sandy McFann; and many loving nieces and nephews. Linda's family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks East of Van Dyke, Utica. A funeral service will continue on Wednesday, August 2, at 10:00 a.m. at Rochester Church of Christ, 250 W Avon Road, Rochester Hills.
