Lorraine Gerberding

Lorraine Genevieve Gerberding (nee Schoof), age 98, resident of Utica, Michigan. God is faithful, and hears the cries and prayers of his saints. Lorraine passed peacefully and fell asleep to be with the Lord, in the early hours of December 21. There is no more pain or sorrow here for her. Mom married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, George, and immediately went about encouraging him to attend and become a confirmed member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica. This is where mom's parents attended, and she, her sisters and brother went to school there up until the 8th grade. She had her eyes on George then even though they attended different schools until Utica High School. Mom's calling was to be a full-time homemaker, loving wife, mother, and she never stopped until the end. Mom had a wonderful life; not without suffering and pain, but always surrounded by close family and friends. She missed her immediate family; sister, mother, father and her George, and asked daily where they were. We told her where they were. She's awake now, and safe now, with her Lord and Savior and "surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses." Mom was a lupus survivor, diagnosed in 1964. Dad became her caregiver. In their later years, mom became dad's caregiver. True love! Lorraine "fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith." She was born on August 5, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Roy and Lola Schoof. Beloved wife of the late George H. Gerberding. Loving mother of Kathleen J. (Robert) Hall, Janet (Gerald) Grabowski, and Wayne (Kathie) Gerberding. Proud grandmother of Julia (Andrew) Anderson, Erin (Eric) Wathen, Thomas (Shannon) Hall, James Grabowksi, Robert (Abby) Grabowski, Jennifer Grabowski, and Sarah (Matthew) Massey. Dearest great-grandmother of Kate, Ellie, Drew, Finn, Ethan, Kyle, Gabriel, Claire, Elijah, and Henry. Sister of the late Lola (Ernest) Stenke, Bernadine (Bud) Beadles, and Roy "Sonny" Schoof. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Visitation at the Wm Sullivan & Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica on Wednesday, December 28 from 2-8 pm Instate 10 am on Thursday, December 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church 45160 Van Dyke (at Hall Rd) Utica until the time of funeral service 11 am.
