Lucille R. Smith

Lucille Ruth Smith of Huntington Woods, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Lucille, who was 101 years old, was born in Senath, Missouri on February 5, 1923. The booming auto industry brought her family to Michigan when she was five. She lived in Detroit and attended Pershing High School until her senior year when the family moved to the New Hudson area. Later the family moved to Warren. Lucille and her brothers and sisters had a very close and unique bond. Lucille worked for both the Johnson Milk Company in Detroit and Excello in Highland Park. After World War II, Lucille met and married the love of her life, Charles U. Smith. Together they built a home in Huntington Woods where they raised their three children. Lucille dedicated herself to raising her family. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and painting pictures, but most of all she enjoyed being with her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Lucille will be remembered as the beloved wife of the late Charles U. Smith. Loving mother of Douglas (Terry) Smith, James (Valerie) Smith, and Diane (Michael) Klebba. Proud grandmother of Jessica (Andrew) Bolf, Daniel (Rachel) Smith, Kevin Klebba, and Amanda Klebba; and great-grandmother of Penelope Bolf and Aurelia Smith. Dear sister of the late John (late Erma) Reece, the late Delmar (late Betty) Reece, the late Juanita (late Sam) Kelly, the late Evelyn (late Fred) Legree, the late Edwin (Joyce) Reece, the late Bill (Florence) Reece, the late Leroy (Ruth) Reece, and Deanna (Richard) Niazy. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Effie Reece. Visitation for Lucille will take place on Tuesday, August 27, from 3 - 8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. The funeral service for Lucille will be held on Wednesday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m. (visitation 10:00 a.m.) at First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, 529 Hendrie Boulevard, Royal Oak. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
