Margaret Roberts

Margaret Ellen Roberts (nee McCarthy) entered her eternal home on October 7, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones after a challenging and difficult illness. She was born December 26, 1935 to parents born in Ireland and grew up in a neighborhood filled with Irish aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She started school with four girlfriends and stayed close with them throughout her life as her “forever friends”. Her husband Bill was the love of her life during their marriage of over 66 years. Margaret was at peace and had finished her final task in life, caring for her husband throughout his illness and death last September. Her faith in Christ was her foundation throughout her life and she has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith and is now at rest. She is survived by her daughter Karen Marie Allen (James), sons Michael Charles (Daneen) and David Edward (Linda); grandchildren Alex Neuman (Sarah), Megan Roberts, Jeremy and Julian Roberts; special nephew Larry Coallier (Melanie), as well as many other nieces and nephews. Margaret was a tremendous presence in the lives of many; she was kind, generous, wise and funny. She could find the humor in most situations and always gave us permission to laugh, most especially at ourselves. A treasured plaque in her kitchen read “Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall be forever amused”. She was also strong and determined and many years ago, when wanting to advance the funding for juvenile diabetes research, she helped found the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling and playing cards, and after retirement, she and her husband Bill actively volunteered at the Royal Oak Senior Center. She was a good neighbor, friend and Christian, and helped others in large and small ways throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation () or the Detroit Rescue Mission (). Visitation will be Thursday, October 12th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan Funeral Home in Royal Oak with services on Friday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak. Procession and interment at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery will follow the service.
