Marilyn Joy Faust

Marilyn Joy (Ayres) Faust of Troy Michigan returned to the Lord on June 29th, 2024. She leaves behind her sister Julie Ayres Connolley (husband David), her children Melissa Bergel, Amy Faust and Matthew Faust, grandchildren Alexander Bergel (wife Trisha), Katrina Bergel, Owen, Chris, Sean and Patrick Faust, and her great grandchildren Aurora and Gemma Bergel and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents H. Vincent and Marion (Gast) Ayres and husband Gordon W. Faust. Joy, born in 1938 in Detroit, had one younger sister. The two of them have truly been the epitome of sisterly love as they were constantly phoning to support each other. Joy made the Dean's list several times at Michigan State University as she worked towards a BA in Home Economics, Honors College. She loved being part of the Sigma Kappa sorority and was in contact with her sisters for many decades. Gordon and Joy met under the clock tower on the Michigan State University campus. The legend was, if you kiss under the clock tower at midnight, you would get married. After graduation and marriage, the two headed off out west for a 2 month honey moon with a trailer in tow. It's no wonder her favorite movie was Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz in 'The Long, Long Trailer.' Joy had an adventurous spirit. She flew in a tiny propeller plane to tour Alaska and went helicopter skiing in Banff Canada. She taught her children to hunt for many little creatures and to marvel at their design. Many family vacations included endless lectures about the local animals, fauna, and history. Gordon and Joy purchased the Windy Ridge Orchards in Saline and enjoyed the cider mill business. Joy delighted in setting up a petting zoo for the children adding some long horn steers, pigmy goats and horses. She loved baking hundreds and hundreds of pies and donuts! At 72, Joy returned to college for another degree and attended Oakland Community College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Certificate of Culinary Arts: Baking and Pastry. She volunteered at many events at Beautiful Savior Church of Troy and especially enjoyed bringing her dessert creations. When family became more involved in care giving we frequently heard, 'I see why she was named Joy.' She would often share detailed family history of the nurse or another patient she just met. We wish Joy tons of adventures as she settles into her heavenly home.
