Marjorie Seery

Marjorie Anne (O’Connor) Seery, age 89, passed away peacefully December 28, 2017 at her home in Royal Oak from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, C. Walter Seery, Jr. in 1995 and son, Richard W. Seery in 1999. Marge leaves her children Michael (Janise) Seery, Kimberly (Gerry) Dalley, Jody DeRusha, and Mary Lee (Gary) Longe. She was loved by her grandchildren Gerry Thomas, Brian (Katie), Steven, Lauren, Kevin, Alan, Leslie, Briggs, Bryn, Lily and great grandsons, Connor and Gerry. Marjorie was the daughter of the late James C. and Eulela O’Connor. She cherished her Irish heritage and her large family. She was preceded in death by brothers James (Donna) and Joseph (Rayleen) O’Connor, brother-in-law William (late, Dorothy) Seery, sister-in-law Janet (late, Michael) Harper. She will be dearly missed by brothers Patrick (late, Sally), Richard (Jean), Michael (Susan), and Terry O’Connor and sisters Mary Denison and Susan (John) Kirkland, brother-in-law Richard (Nancy) Seery. Marge left an indelible mark as aunt to 57 nieces and nephews. She was a dedicated friend to everyone who came to know her and a surrogate aunt and grandmother to many who shared her ever challenging life. Marge was a graduate of Little Flower High School, Royal Oak, Class of 1946. She completed her degree at Pontiac Business Institute. Marge worked outside the home all of her adult life. She retired from the Archdiocese of Detroit in 1999 where she worked in Canon Law. Marge lived in Royal Oak and was a member of Shrine of the Little Flower Church for 65 years. She was a docent along with other volunteer positions at Shrine for many years after her retirement. Marge loved many varieties of music and the arts and enjoyed them often with family and friends. She was a fierce Bridge player with her long-standing Bridge partner, Marge Caram; they treasured the challenge of the game. Marge traveled frequently and loved to discuss her travels with others. Her most treasured travel experience was to Vatican City, Rome where she met Pope John Paul II and was photographed shaking his hand. Memorial visitation Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road (4 blocks E of Woodward), Royal Oak, MI 48067. The family will receive friends Monday, January 8, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 W 12 Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073.
