Mary Ann Ruth Cook

Cook, Mary Ann Ruth, age 83, of West Bloomfield, formerly a longtime resident of Royal Oak and Bloomfield Hills, passed away on December 14, 2015. She was born August, 26, 1932 in Wetmore, Michigan to the late Carl and Ruth Jensen. She married Bernard Cook on February 25, 1956 in Detroit. Mary Ann worked for many years as a medical technician and later as a phlebotomy instructor at Ferndale Medical Careers. Along with her husband, Mary Ann was an antique dealer (The Cellar Dwellers) and had booths at Holly's Water Tower and Northville's Knightsbridge antique malls. Mary Ann's children and grandchildren were her world and she relished the time spent with them. As an avid cook and baker, she always included her grandchildren in an annual Christmas cookie baking party. She aptly honed in on everyone's favorite dishes and kindly hand-wrote recipes for the family. She enjoyed cooking classes at Kitchen Glamour and was renowned for her expansive cookbook collection. Mary Ann also loved Christmas and Halloween and drew from her extensive collection of holiday antiques to decorate. Mary Ann was hard of hearing her entire life, and often mispronounced words, phrases and proper names. These mispronunciations were a source of amusement to both her children and to herself. Mary Ann's favorite television show was "Three's Company", and she'd often laugh herself to tears at the jokes - even in reruns. She also enjoyed watching cooking shows and classic films, especially those of John Wayne. Loving mother of John (Loretta) Cook, Greg Cook, Vince (Annette) Cook, Kris (Dave) Smith, Jerome (Lisa) Cook, and the late Colin Cook (Diane); dear sister of Joy Sheldon, Chuck Jensen, and the late George and John Jensen; proud grandmother of Daniel and Chris Cook; Kimberly (Jeff) Timmington and Karla Cook; Jule and Jonas Cook; Michael (Samantha Jandro) Smith; Alison and Matthew Cook; Katie, Nicholas, Audrey, and the late Emily Cook; and great grandmother of Mae Timmington and Micah Smith. Mary Ann was also very close to her extended family of nieces and nephews and she loved her many pets throughout her life. A memorial celebration of Mary Ann’s and Bernard’s lives will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 from 3-8 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road (4 blocks E of Woodward), Royal Oak.
