Nancy Dawson Millis

Nancy Dawson Millis (nee Dillon), age 91, of Troy, passed away on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. She was born May 29, 1925 in Detroit to the late Len J. Dillon of Detroit and Catherine Holden Dillon of Washington, DC. Nancy was a 1943 graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart and 1945 graduate of Highland Park Junior College. She was a member of the Christ Child Society of Detroit, The Village Club of Bloomfield Hills and Quail Ridge Country Club of Boynton Beach, FL. It would be an understatement to say that Nancy had a diverse career. She was the founder and president of Dawson Industrial Laundry, a manufacturing representative for various firms and industries, including Adell Chemical, Chausse Manufacturing and Work Wear Corporation, and an independent commercial real estate broker. A firm believer in giving back to her community, Nancy also found the time to volunteer at the Lighthouse of Oakland County, which provides services to low-income families. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John B. Millis (d. 1971); sisters, Celeste (late James) Schaefer of San Diego, CA and Carolyn (late John) Ewald of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and brother, Len J. (late Noreen) Dillon Jr. of Detroit. She is survived by her children, Donald J. Chip (Mary Jo) Dawson Jr. of Bloomfield Village, Carolyn (Christopher) Dawson Slavsky of Monument, CO, Michael Dawson of Goleta, CA and Deborah Dawson of Arlington, VA, grandchildren, Jessica (Brett) Dawson O'Brien, Emily Dawson, Maggie Dawson, Joe Dawson, Heidi (Scott) Slavsky Otto, Sunny Slavsky and Mike (Amanda) Slavsky; and great-grandchildren, Trafton Dawson O'Brien, Josephine Clare O'Brien, Josephine Lia Otto and Cassidy Anne Otto. Mom, Nancy to her grandchildren, Grand-Nancy to her great-grandchildren was a force of nature in life. May she rest in everlasting peace! Memorial visitation Friday, August 18, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills.
