Nancie A. Whaley

Nancy Anne Whaley (née Isbell), a resident of Warren, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the age of 71. A daughter of Richard and Shirley (née Smith), she was born on March 31, 1952 in Royal Oak. "Nancie," as she preferred to see her name, graduated from Ernest W. Seaholm High School. Shortly thereafter, she married John Whaley at a ceremony held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham on December 26, 1970. After Nancie completed various finance classes at community college, she began her career as a loan officer with Standard Federal Bank. In her free time, Nancie loved reading romance and suspense novels. She also greatly enjoyed knitting, creating countless scarves, hats, and blankets over the years for those she cared about most. Nancie was also no-nonsense, wouldn't hesitate to speak her mind, and was honest to a fault. After her husband passed, any filter she had went straight out the window, which was routinely evident when she would gather to banter at her favorite restaurant. But Nancie was also undoubtedly generous and took good care of those around her. In particular, she made sure that everyone had meals during holiday times-whether they were family, friends, or neighbors. Nancie is survived by her children: John (Amy) Whaley and Margo (Daniel) Chandler; her grandchildren: Chandler, Joseph, Gavin, Carleton (Erica), Tyler (Amber), Izac (Felicia), and Jack; her great-grandchild, Sydney; and her siblings: Barb Mayer, Elaine Smith, Mary Grunis, Clare Rodney, Paul Isbell, and Margaret Isbell. She was predeceased by her husband, John Whaley; her son, Joseph Whaley; her grandson, John Michael Whaley; and her siblings: Kathy Heisey and John Isbell. Memorial visitation for Nancie will take place on Saturday, October 28 from 3:00 p.m. until time of service, 4:00 p.m., at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak.
