Penny K. Showers March 15, 1952 - September 4, 2023 Penny K. Showers, a beloved member of the Royal Oak community, passed away on September 4, 2023, at the age of 71. Her life was a testament to love, dedication, and the joy of simple pleasures. Penny was born on March 15, 1952, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to Lewis William Chester and Shirley Taylor Chester. She was a lifelong resident of Royal Oak, where her roots ran deep. She completed her high school education at Dondero High School and continued her pursuit of knowledge at Oakland Community College. Her path eventually led her to become a mammography technician, a role she embraced with care and compassion, serving at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak until her retirement in 2014. Beyond her professional life, Penny was a pillar of her community, particularly within the Frank Wendland American Legion Post #253 in Royal Oak. She dedicated her time and talents to the Ladies Auxiliary, serving in various roles, including President and Treasurer. Her commitment to this organization was a reflection of her unwavering support for veterans and their families. Penny had a zest for life and an infectious love for shopping. Saturdays often found her in the company of her step-sisters, Chris and Lissa, as they shopped the day away, sharing laughter and creating cherished memories. She was also an avid reader and found comfort in the company of her favorite TV shows, "Friends" and "Big Bang Theory." On June 5, 1971, Penny married the love of her life, Kenneth Showers, in Royal Oak. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with devotion and shared adventures. Kenneth preceded her in death on December 20, 2011, leaving behind beautiful memories and a legacy of love. Penny was a loving mother to her children, Adam Showers, Sean (Deri) Showers, and Heidi (Dan) Goldsworthy. She was a cherished grandmother to Zander Showers, Isabella Showers, Jacob Showers, Kaylee Chrzanowski, Joshua Goldsworthy, Shirley Goldsworthy, and great-grandmother to Adrean Goldsworthy, Dayton Yokum, and the late Adilyn Dorre. She was a dear sister to Mark Chester and the late Lesley Weber, and her nurturing spirit extended to her many nieces and nephews who considered her a second mother. A memorial celebration of Penny's life will be held at a later date, offering an opportunity for friends and family to gather, share stories, and honor her memory. Her final resting place will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, a cause close to Penny's heart. Penny's life was a reflection of the simple joys, the bonds of family, and the warmth of community. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration and love in the hearts of all who knew her.
