Raymond Eugene Hepner

Raymond Eugene Hepner, a resident of Berkley, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022 at the age of 66. A son of Henry and Grace (Maurer), he was born in Highland Park, MI. Ray grew up in Utica with his loving parents and four brothers where he enjoyed working on cars and riding dirt bikes as a teen. He met his wife, Nancy, while managing a McDonald’s or “in grease” as they loved to say. They were married in May of 1979 and bought a house in Berkley. Soon after, they had three children whom they loved more than anything. Ray was always present at his kids sporting events, dance recitals, cub scout events, etc. and loved seeing the country on the two vacations he took his family on every summer, in their pop-up camper. As time went on, he managed at Murray’s Discount Auto for many years and then made a move to Orkin Pest Control, and recently retired. Ray loved his family more than anything but second to that, he loved cars. (A Ford man at heart.) He owned two classic cars that he loved maintaining and showing off. He loved collecting antiques and could often be found at the Royal Oak Flea Market on Sunday mornings. That is, if he wasn’t up north at his cottage on the river, which was his heaven on earth. Ray truly enjoyed life. He was a hard worker, rarely missing a day of work, but never complained. He would do anything for anyone. He loved watching movies and having a good laugh. He loved decorating his house for Christmas and dressing up for Halloween. Ray’s proudest accomplishment was being a grandpa. He was always beaming from ear to ear in his grandchildren’s presence and he bragged about them to EVERYONE. He was so appreciative of everything he had, including some truly wonderful friends. His passing has left a hole in the hearts of many. He will be missed beyond words. Beloved husband of Nancy Hepner. Loving father of Amy (Patrick), Eric, and Scott (Brittany.) Doting grandpa of Nolan, Olivia, Jack and Stella. Dear brother of Glenn (Patricia), Henry (Sandy), Robert (Molly), and Walt (Diane.) Caring uncle of Glenn (Kelly), Sherry (Michael), Jason (Andrea), Bryan (Heather), Sarah (Scott), Samantha, Christina, and Nick. Proud great uncle to many great nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, son Eric, brother Henry, and wife Nancy. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 1, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation also Thursday, June 2, at 9:30 am until time of service 10 am, at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Graveside Service to follow at Oakview Cemetery.
