Rick Haney

Richard John Haney, age 64, of Hazel Park, passed away on August 3, 2024. Rick was born on October 16, 1959 to Robert and Patricia Haney. He was raised on the east side of Detroit and attended several schools, ultimately attaining his GED from Troy Athens. On December 12, 1992, he was wed to Amy (née Hall), with whom he enjoyed over thirty years of marriage. In his free time, Rick was an avid boater and fisherman, with a deep passion for visiting lighthouses. Traveling was one of his and Amy's favorite activities, particularly to places in Michigan known for their lighthouses. Rick was very family-oriented. He cherished spending time with his loved ones, whether it was for a brief moment or several hours. He had a unique way of making everyone feel welcome, always greeting others with a hug and his enthusiastic phrase, "Give me Some, Give me Some!" And mindful of always being a good sport and showing his support, he never missed a family graduation. Rick maintained a close-knit group of friends from his teenage years and was always quick to offer help to anyone when needed. He was rarely seen without his sunglasses and took great pride in his black Ford Explorer, which he washed nearly every day and featured as the background on his phone. And though oftentimes much to the consternation of those around him, he was a proud and devoted University of Michigan football fan. Rick was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. Rick will be remembered as the loving husband of Amy (née Hall). Loving father of Nicholas and Matthew. Dear brother of Robert (Angela) Haney, Christopher (Sharon), Michelle (Jeff) Servay, Anthony (Sharon) Haney. Dear uncle of Laura (Joe) Banks, Chris Gutzeit, Christopher Hayes, Brandon Roach, Amber Haney, Katelyn Haney, Jenna Haney, Kayla Servay, Jessica (Ryan) Larose, Chris Jr. Haney, and Elizabeth Haney. Brother-in-law of Mary Ellen Hayes, Christina Jarrell, Nanette Hall, and Paula Roach. Visitation for Rick will take place on Friday, August 9, from 3:00 p.m. until time of service, 7:00 p.m., at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak.
