Richard Stoll

Richard "Dick" Stoll, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. He was born on July 17, 1930, to Raymond Stoll and Mildred Coffin Stoll. Dick married the love of his life, Karin Gunvor Hansson, on June 24, 1955, in Indiana. They shared a remarkable and devoted marriage of nearly 70 years. A proud graduate of Wayne State University, Dick earned his bachelor’s degree and master's degrees there. In 1967, he became the first registrar at Wayne County Community College, where he also served as a professor of sociology until his retirement in 1987. A lifelong learner, Dick found joy in reading, traveling, and exploring the natural world. He loved hiking, walking along beaches, and collecting rocks—a quiet reflection of his appreciation for both nature and knowledge. His rock and sand collection was outpaced, however, by his book and magazine collection. As a true educator, Dick was constantly learning new things and teaching those around him - from politics and history to geology and physics. He was a music aficionado, listening to music from the classical Killer B’s (Bach, Beethoven, Brahms) to modern music Killer B’s (Bing Crosby, Buddy Holly, Beatles). Nor were his tastes limited to American music, he loved music from all over the world, including Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Spain, the Andes, and the Caribbean. He enjoyed Big Band, Swing, Jazz, Ragtime, Country, Rock-and-Roll, Folk, and Classical. He particularly loved Christmas music and organ music, especially Christmas organ music. He will be remembered for his constantly tapping fingers and jingling pocket change - making music when there was none. He is survived by his beloved wife Karin, and his loving sons Kurt Stoll (Nancy Kung) and Karl Stoll (Esmeralda Whitledge). Dick was a proud grandfather to Karen (Justin) Stoll Farrell, Bryan Stoll, Ian (Jessica) Stoll, and Aaron Stoll, and a cherished great-grandfather to Gage Miller, Odin Farrell, Penelope Farrell, Amara Farrell, Aarow Stoll, Zoey Stoll, Michael Stoll, and Seabern Stoll.
